For the first few years of my daughter’s life, school wasn’t just difficult; it was a daily battle. Despite her brightness, she couldn’t retain information. We did everything “right.” We had occupational therapy, speech therapy, and play therapy. I even hired an assistant teacher to sit by her side in the classroom.
But despite the army of support, the gap kept widening. Her confidence was shattering before she’d even had the chance to build it.
The Diagnosis & The Decision
Eventually, we received the answer we had been searching for, though it was a heavy one: our daughter was born with a degenerative neurological condition.
In that moment, my priorities shifted. I walked away from my career because I knew she needed more than just “support”—she needed me. We moved to homeschooling, utilising a high-quality international curriculum. But even with my full attention and excellent lesson plans, the struggle persisted. The information just wasn’t sticking fast enough to keep up with the school year.
I knew there had to be a better way.
The “Lightbulb” Moment
The breakthrough didn’t happen in a textbook; it happened in her bedroom.
One afternoon, I walked in expecting to find her struggling with her work. Instead, I found her glued to a math game. When I asked what she was doing, she didn’t say she was “studying.” She looked up, eyes bright, and said, “I need to practice my times tables. I have to beat my friend in multiplication.”
In that moment, I saw something I hadn’t seen in years: Motivation. Competitiveness. Joy.
I realised that for this generation, gaming isn’t a distraction—it is a language. By tapping into her competitive nature and making learning immersive, the “boring” facts she struggled to retain suddenly became tools she wanted to master.

That afternoon was the seed that grew into Windsor Academy. As we travelled and met parents around the world, I realised we weren’t alone. So many families were fighting the same silent battles, watching their children disconnect from learning.
I channeled everything I had learned about my daughter’s struggles and her unique learning style into building Windsor Academy. My goal was to design a platform that was exciting and competitive, but with a clear purpose: ensuring that while she was having fun playing, she was retaining the complex information presented to her.
