Preamble

The Windsor Academy Code of Conduct is founded on the principles of Respect, Integrity, Responsibility, and Excellence. It is a framework designed to foster a safe, supportive, and disciplined learning environment where every member of our community feels valued and has the opportunity to achieve their full potential. This Code applies to all students, staff, and parents and extends to all school-related activities, whether on or off campus, including online interactions. Adherence to this Code is a condition of enrollment and employment at Windsor Academy.

Article 1: Core Principles

All members of the Windsor Academy community are expected to:

  • Act with Integrity: Be honest, trustworthy, and accountable for their actions. Uphold academic honesty by not engaging in plagiarism, cheating, or any form of academic misconduct.

  • Show Respect: Treat all individuals, including peers, staff, and visitors, with courtesy, dignity, and consideration, regardless of background, ability, or belief. Respect school property and the property of others.

  • Demonstrate Responsibility: Be punctual and prepared for all classes and school activities. Take ownership of their learning, behaviour, and choices. Contribute positively to the school community and the broader environment.

Article 2: Anti-Bullying Policy

Windsor Academy has a zero-tolerance policy for bullying in any form. Bullying is defined as any intentional and repeated act—written, verbal, or physical—or electronic communication that causes physical or emotional harm to another student or creates a hostile school environment.

a) Forms of Bullying: Bullying can include, but is not limited to:

  • Physical Bullying: Hitting, kicking, pushing, tripping, or any other form of unwanted physical contact.

  • Verbal Bullying: Name-calling, teasing, taunting, making threats, or using derogatory or offensive language.

  • Social/Relational Bullying: Spreading rumours, deliberate exclusion from a group, social isolation, or manipulating relationships.

  • Cyberbullying: Using electronic media (such as social media, text messages, or email) to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person. This includes creating fake profiles or sharing private information without consent.

b) Responsibilities and Reporting:

  • Students are expected to refrain from any form of bullying and are strongly encouraged to report any incidents they witness or experience. Reporting is an act of courage and responsibility that protects the entire community.

  • Reporting Procedure: Incidents of bullying can be reported to any trusted staff member, including a teacher, school counsellor, or administrator. Reports will be taken seriously, investigated promptly and discreetly, and treated with confidentiality.

  • No Retaliation: Windsor Academy prohibits any form of retaliation against individuals who report bullying in good faith. Any student found to have retaliated will be subject to disciplinary action.

c) Consequences for Bullying: Verified incidents of bullying will result in disciplinary action, tailored to the severity and nature of the offence. Consequences may include:

  • Mandatory counselling and restorative sessions.

  • Loss of privileges.

  • Detention or suspension.

  • In severe or repeated cases, expulsion from Windsor Academy.

Article 3: Student-Teacher Interactions and Professional Boundaries

The relationship between students and teachers is central to the educational experience. It must be built on mutual respect, trust, and professionalism.

a) Expectations for Students:

  • Respectful Conduct: Students shall address teachers and staff members in a courteous and respectful manner at all times.

  • Cooperation: Students are expected to follow teachers’ instructions and cooperate with them to maintain a productive and orderly learning environment.

  • Appropriate Communication: Communication with teachers, whether in person or online, must be formal and related to academic matters. Students must use official school-sanctioned channels (e.g., school email, Learning Management System) for communication.

  • Personal Boundaries: Students shall not attempt to engage with teachers on personal social media platforms or through private, non-academic channels.

b) Expectations for Teachers:

  • Professional Demeanour: Teachers will interact with all students in a fair, impartial, and professional manner, providing a safe and inclusive emotional and physical environment.

  • Maintaining Professional Boundaries: Teachers will not engage in dual relationships with students. This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Connecting with students on personal social media accounts.

    • Sharing personal contact information (e.g., personal mobile number).

    • Engaging in communication or meetings outside of official school-sanctioned contexts without prior approval and/or parental knowledge.

  • Confidentiality: Teachers will maintain the confidentiality of student academic and personal information, sharing it only with relevant staff and parents/guardians as required.

Article 4: Digital Citizenship

Students are expected to use technology responsibly and ethically. This includes:

  • Using school networks and devices for educational purposes only.

  • Respecting copyright and intellectual property laws.

  • Protecting personal passwords and not sharing them with others.

  • Refraining from accessing or distributing inappropriate material.

Article 5: Disciplinary Procedures

Violations of this Code of Conduct will be addressed through a fair and consistent disciplinary process. The process aims to be educational and restorative wherever possible. It will involve:

  1. A thorough investigation of the incident.

  2. An opportunity for the student to present their perspective.

  3. Communication with the student’s parents or guardians.

  4. Implementation of appropriate consequences, which may range from a verbal warning to expulsion, depending on the severity of the infraction.
